Weymouth:Make More Effort To Bring In More Winter Trade

A leading Weymouth businessman says more effort needs to be made to attract people to the town centre in the winter.
As reported on Wessex FM the Borough Council are currently asking local people to comment on a future vision for Weymouth.
Dennis Spurr from the Fantastic Sausage Factory says he's been trading in the town for 20 years and has seen consultations like this before, but nothing has changed.
Dennis told Wessex FM he would like to see part of St Mary Street turned into a food and craft village;
"The idea of a village was to have some craft markets, something interesting, not your ordinary markets. We have some great chefs here who could do cooking demonstrations. I could do some sausage making demonstrations. Something to make it interesting and to get people to come here."
Dennis, who's also a member of Weymouth BID, thinks more money needs to be invested into putting things on in the town in the winter;
"Everyone concentrates on the summer, but when the sun's out everyone wants to come here anyway. There's too much investment in the summer and people need to think what we can do to make people come here in the winter months."
