Martinstown Wins Dorset's Best Village 2014

The 2014 title for Dorset's best village has gone to....Martinstown
Loders was named best 'small ' village.
In addition to usual Best Village categories, there were three special awards made on the night. 'The People's Project' - the village judged to have entered the best project involving local active people. This year the winner was Charmouth with its "Shoreline" community magazine ahead of joint runners up Milborne St. Andrew "Bus 2 Go" community transport project and Briantspuddle community "Coffee Shop". Meanwhile the 'Best Environment' category - the village judged to be doing the best 'Green' initiative saw Alderholt "Village Pond" project come out on top with Shipton Gorge "Community Wood" project a close runner up. A new category introduced this year for the first time "Best Village Shop" and sponsored by the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) resulted in Winfrith Newburgh Village Stores and Post Office being declared the winner with Iwerne Minster Village Shop and Post Office hard on its heels as runner up.
