Loan Sailor Rescued Off Portland Bill
1:58pm 7th October 2014
Weymouth lifeboat crew have helped rescue a sailor who'd spent 12 hours drifting at sea.
Portland Coastguard Helicopter was also involved in a search for the loan boat last night, which was eventually spotted 18 miles off Portland Bill by a British Naval Vessel, HMS St Albans.
Weymouth lifeboat Ernest and Mabel picked up the man who was confused and disorientated.
He was checked over by paramedics and was said to be well apart from suffering from the effects of the cold.
Andy Sargeant, Coxswain of Weymouth all-weather lifeboat, said: 'We launched the lifeboat at 3.45am, and were on scene by 5.10am.
'The waves were about 2.5m and the trimaran was listing quite heavily. The man was confused and disorientated as you would expect, given the length of time he'd been there.'
