Roll Out The Barrel

Weymouth Barrel Challenge

8:35am 10th October 2014

It's tough and fun but more importantly this year’s Weymouth Barrel Challenge has raised £2,900 for local charities.

Volunteers involved had to transport a barrel on foot around a 9 mile course in Weymouth.

The organising committee’s handing over the donations tonight.

The proceeds are being shared between Weymouth lifeboat and MV Freedom.

Organiser Colin House told Wessex FM; "It began with a discussion in a pub, would you believe, hence the barrel theme and it just took off from there. People wanted a way to raise money for their charities so that's what we've been doing."

"Not only do teams take part in the barrel challenge but on the quayside there's also a fancy dress competition and a roll-along. So what we're hoping for is a bigger and better event next year."
