CCTV

(Updated 6:41am 24th October 2014)

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward  after an elderly woman was targeted by thieves.

It happened in the town centre.

A man kept her talking while a woman stole her purse which was on top of her bag.

The police have released this CCTV image of the pair.

Next time you are heading off to the shops, or rummaging through the bargains at a car boot sale, just remind yourself of the following advice.

- Keep your bag closed and close to you, with the opening towards your body, if possible.
- Close your purse and put it away before you leave the till. Try not to overload yourself with bags and coats.
- Do not leave handbags and purses unattended in shopping trolleys
- Do not leave handbags and purses on top of shopping bags or other places where they can be easily stolen.
- Avoid carrying your wallet or purse in a back trouser pocket. Keep cash secure and out of sight.

If you happen to lose your purse / wallet or believe it has been stolen, please contact the Police straight away on 101.

Make sure you keep a note of all the bank accounts and credit/debit cards you carry so that you can contact the banks as soon as possible to cancel the cards.
