Help Build Nesting Boxes For Barn Owls
12:44pm 27th October 2014
Barn Owls in Dorset need your help after last winter saw their worst breeding season in 30 years.
Dorset Wildlife Trust say the bird's numbers have plummeted.
They're appealing for volunteers to build shelter boxes which will give the birds safety this winter.
The Dorset Wildlife Trust's barn owl appeal was launched in June and the conservation charity will now use some of the £28,000 raised to start building barn owl boxes.
Its thought long winters, cold summers and wet springs have made it harder for the birds to hunt, and changes in farming practices have seen a loss of nesting sites.
An Owl Day, featuring a feathered guest, is being held at Portesham Village Hall tomorrow (28th October) 10am-1pm.
A box building day will be held on Saturday 15th November at Dorset Wildlife Trust's headquarters, Brooklands Farm in Forston, Dorchester, 11am-3pm.
