8:35am 6th November 2014
Increasing online training and creating more student workshops with local businesses are all part of plans to battle unemployment in Weymouth and Portland.
A review by the Borough Council has been looking at ways to improve employment opportunities in the area.
Ray Nowak, Economic Development Brief Holder for Weymouth & Portland Borough Council, told Wessex FM: "We have examined the problem of joblessness in great detail so we can better understand how to improve the skills and prosperity of our local workforce."
The local authority are also putting an emphasis on developing apprentice schemes, as research shows around 70% of apprentices stay with the employer who trained them.
Many of these recommendations will be implemented under the new Workforce Skills Plan 2014-2017.
