Dorset Special Constables and volunteers have been recognised for their hard work at an award ceremony.

Nominees from across the south west police services were up for a range of different categories at the event held at Westland Conference and Leisure Complex in Yeovil.

Dorset's Sam Burge picked up the prestigious title of Special Constable of the Year.

Sam worked five days in a row to help with flooding on Portland, which included rescuing a mentally-ill man from a dangerous beach.

He completed his voluntary duties on top of his day job working as a Dorset Police radio dispatcher.

The Dorset Victims Bureau won the Police Support Volunteer Team of the Year Award and between them they have devoted more than 1,000 hours to their voluntary role.
