Three Hour Sing-A-Thon On Portland By The Alzheimer's Society

3:33pm 12th November 2014

The Alzheimer's Society's Singing for the Brain has been hitting all the right notes today during their three hour Sing-a-thon on Portland.

They've been belting out the hits in Easton as part of their work helping people with dementia to express themselves and sing with others in a similar situation.

Melanie Gale, Alzheimer's Society Peer Group Support Facilitator, said: "It is a social activity for people with dementia and their carers enabling them to express themselves and sing with others in a similar situation.

"Even when many memories are hard to retrieve, music can sometimes still be recalled - if only for a short while. The sessions help people with dementia communicate, improving their mood and leaving them feeling good about themselves."

There are 1,081 people with dementia in Weymouth and Portland.

For more information call Melanie on 07525 824899 or Alzheimer's Society on 01305 259740.
