With the colder weather taking its toll on our local wildlife - bird lovers are being given FREE advice from a local nursery.

Groves Nurseries in Bridport and Beaminster are offering top tips on how to stop small wild birds from being killed by the cold.

They’re suggesting putting out leftovers with a high fat content like bacon rind or grated cheese to help wild birds survive the tough winter months.

They're also recommending feeding a little and often rather than overfeeding as the cold weather forces more birds into our gardens to look for food.

Said Charlie Groves, “By putting out a little extra food you can really help them and you get the added bonus of being able to enjoy watching these amazing creatures close up. There are so many misconceptions about what you should give them. If anyone wants any advice all they need to do is call in to our pets section and ask. They don’t have to buy anything. We are just glad to help and advice.”
