Local MP To Visit Relate Dorset
9:25am 12th December 2014
A charity that helps families and couples across Dorset with their relationship problems is being visited by a special guest today (12th December).
Relate Dorset will be showing North Dorset MP Bob Walter around their offices in Poundbury near Dorchester to show what they do to support people going through relationship crisis.
Centre Manager Sheila Maycock explains how they help those in need.
She told Wessex FM: "We can see individuals if they are struggling with their relationship. They don't have to bring their other half. We also see a lot of children as young as 7 and we see a lot of families too who we offer training sessions to."
In particular, Bob will be briefed on the charity's Separated Parents Information Programme, or SPIP, which offers separated parents access to a 4-hour course to help them understand the impact of conflict on their children and offers guidance on improved communication.
Bob said: "I have always admired the work Relate does in championing the importance of relationships, whilst reaching out and offering practical support to families in times of difficulty or crisis."
"Strong relationships are, without doubt, the foundation of society and their breakdown, if left unsupported, can cause untold harm to physical and mental health, child development and people’s life chances."
