Wyfri Cafe Gives Students A Taste Of Work
9:12am 17th December 2014
They've successfully worked and run their own café and now Wyvern Academy students in Weymouth are going to keep running their shop next year.
The specialist school has been using the WyFri Café to give pupils with complex needs hands-on experience of the world of work.
Students are doing everything from serving up food to looking after the money and they'll be opening up the shop again at Hope Church in Weymouth on the 9th January.
Andrew Holland, Head of the Sixth Form, said: "There are often opportunities for our students to enter the world of catering."
"Working in kitchens and serving at tables can be quite challenging for those with special needs and the WyFri Café has been set up to provide real experience and training for those about to enter the world of work."
The first WyFri Café day at Hope Church in 2015 will be on January 9 and at the Dorford Centre on Friday January 23 when the students would love to welcome new customers.
Other Hope Church events will be on February 13; March 13; May 8 and June 12 and at the Dorford Centre on March 27, May 22 and June 26.
