Play Rounders In Dorchester
8:09am 30th December 2014
West Dorset District Council is looking for new teams to join their indoor rounders league, starting at the end of January.
The fast-paced indoor game is a six a side version of the outdoor game, the league is being set up with financial assistance from Rounders England. The district council received a grant earlier this year and the council has already delivered rounders sessions to several groups in the area.
Throughout the country rounders is being played, and not just at school, but by parents, sports clubs and workplace teams. Indoor and outdoor competitions are proving to be very popular and the district council hopes that the league in Dorchester will be a great way to bring people together at the end of a work day.
Cllr Robert Gould, West Dorset District Council Leader said: "Participating in sport within the local community is a great way to meet new friends, socialise and help lead an active and healthy lifestyle.
"I would like to thank Rounders England for getting behind West Dorset District Council and supporting great community initiatives like this."
All fixtures will be played in Dorchester at St Osmund's Community Sports Centre's sports hall. Games will be played at either 4.45pm or 5.15pm, all on Tuesday evenings. Games should last around 30 minutes. The sports hall has a great viewing area so substitutes and other teams can watch games taking place and socialise at the same time.
The new league will have limited places and the first six teams to complete and return the team registration will be allocated a place. Teams can register up to 12 players but only six can play at any one time. Entries need to be received by 8 January.
