Major Pressure On Local Ambulances Over Holidays
8:16am 5th January 2015
Our Ambulance Service dealt with 'extremely high' demand over the Christmas period which saw the service respond to over 17,000 calls.
The strain on resources meant South West Ambulances were on standby to declare a major incident on 27th December but the service managed to cope and was back to normal within days.
The demand on the service increased from around 14,000 incidents from the year before.
New figures have shown during their busiest period, crews dealt with 3,205 incidents on Saturday 27th December alone.
The service is reviewing the activity to help with future planning.
