Help Finley To Walk
11:18am 11th June 2012
A Portland mum is fundraising to buy a special walking frame for her young son who suffers from a type of cerebral palsy.
Nikki Avery's two-year-old son Finley suffers from epilepsy and a type of cerebral palsy called hemiplegia, as well as Global Developmental Delay.
He needs the Kaye walking frame, which costs around £500, to help him balance.
Nikki said: "Finley's two years old but he's more like a one year old. What we have to get is a special seat for him as well because he can't stand up. The walker will encourage him to walk and give him a bit of balance so he can do steps. It folds as well so we can take it out with us. Because I don't drive it can hang on the back of my pushchair. So it would be the perfect bit of kit for him."
Nikki has got Elite hair salon on Portland involved to raise money for Finley. On Friday 30th June they are holding a fundraising event for Finley and will be offering various beauty and nail treatments at half-price from 3pm to 6pm. A raffle will also be held.
The next day Nikki is holding "Finley's Funday" from 10:30am-2pm at White Stone's Cafe Gallery in Easton, with activities such as face painting, lucky dip, cake stall, tombola and a Name The Teddy competition.
