Round The World In 800 Days
10:03am 13th June 2012
You've heard of travelling the world in 80 days, but a Weymouth couple are taking things a bit further - they're doing it in 800.
Andy Smith and Emma Smart have set off on their mammoth car journey which will see them clock up over 60,000 miles.
They will spend two years, two months and nine days in their 18-year-old 4x4 as they drive through 39 countries and six continents, including Europe, Australia, North America and Africa.
In some countries Emma and Andy will be getting involved with various local charity projects.
During their trip they will cross the equator five times. They will also cross the Arctic Circle.
The two adventurers have had numerous injections against everything from polio to rabies. They will be taking a six month supply of malaria tablets and two special drinks of vaccinations for the countries they are planning to visit.
They have received the support and well-wishes of MP for South Dorset Richard Drax and celebrated explorer, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who said: "Emma and Andy have turned their aspirations into a reality and are about to embark on an incredible adventure. They will encounter many fascinating people and places on their expedition and it is commendable that they have chosen to work with various grassroot, local charity projects to help give back to the communities and welcome them. I wish them the best of luck on their journey."
