Famous Five Adventure Trail Comes To Dorset
3:45pm 16th June 2012
If you've ever wanted to be part of the Famous Five now you have the chance to follow an adventure trail in Dorset based on one of Enid Blyton's books.
Uncle Quentin has been working on a source of green energy but his Top Secret papers have been stolen, children (and parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents) have to solve six clues which will ultimately lead them to the thieves.
The adventure is an extension of the 1948 book Five on Kirrin Island Again, and will appeal to a huge range of Blyton Famous Five Fans.
The Trail has been set up by Viv Endecott, which runs the Ginger Pop Shop in Corfe Castle and Eileen Soper's Illustrated Worlds on Poole Quay, the Attraction which brings the books to life.
Viv said: "Famous Five adventures take place over several days and are set in big landscapes and I wanted the Adventure Trail to do the same so that fans get that same sense of time and space. Enid Blyton loved this area and came three times a year for over twenty years. She knew Dorset before we gave it labels like Jurassic Coat or Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and there is so much here that she would still recognise. Purbeck is full of castles, islands and lovely beaches so it's a great place to inspire a writer, or for family holidays."
There will be activities along the Swanage Railway Line based on classic Famous Five skills, such as boating, camp craft and cycle maintenance. There will also be story-readng, art and a display about Enid Blyton. There will also be steam trains passing by every 40 minutes.
A big Enid Blyton Birthday party is planned in the grounds of Corfe Castle on August 11th so tie a rope around your waist, put on your rubber soled shoes, pack a picnic including lashings of ginger beer, and come down to Dorset to join in the fun!
