Weymouth and Portland's Armed Forces Day Celebrations are taking place this weekend.

The celebrations will have an added significance this year as the borough recognises the 100th anniversary of the Royal Engineer Association.

Veterans have made and continue to make a major contribution to our nation and the Weymouth and Portland Armed Forces Day Celebrations will provide a focus on the tireless work carried out by veterans associations, individuals and today's military forces.

A host of displays and information will be available from the various agencies and charity organisations, visitors to the event will be able to appreciate the important role they play.

With many unique nostalgic, social and commemorative experiences together with many historic and military attractions and features, Weymouth and Portland is considered to be the ideal location to host one of the country's leading veterans events.

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council Head of Tourism Matt Ryan said: "Weymouth and Portland is very proud to have the unique opportunity to stage one of the country's leading veterans events. The borough embraces every aspect of the celebrations and looks forward to giving a warm and hospitable welcome to many thousands of veterans, armed forces personnel, family and friends".
