10:16am 27th June 2012
Volunteers are needed for a beach clean at Chesil Cove this Saturday.
The community event is being supported by two local companies, Vinci Construction UK Limited and New Look.
All are welcome and free refreshments will be provided by New Look and Vinci Construction UK Limited afterwards. Gloves and litter pickers will be provided but those attending are recommended to wear wellies or old trainers.
Saturday 30th June 2012 at 11 am - 1 pm at Chesil Cove (Promenade by the Cove House Inn).
Vinci Construction UK Limited is currently building the new New Look Head Offices in Weymouth. Nigel Crawford from the company explained that "VINCI Construction UK is committed to improving the environment and making an impact on local communities, particularly through its unique partnership with the Prince's Trust, Construction Youth Trust and Duke of Edinburgh's Award. In addition, the company recently supported the UK NHS Sustainability Day at Coventry University Hospital where we have a 40 year maintenance contract. To continue the theme of sustainability, we are supporting the Hospital's Outerspace project to deliver natural green space by providing electric vehicle charging points and bicycle racks."
The Dorset Coast Forum and Dorset Countryside rangers are helping to organise the beach clean as part of the local Litter Free Coast and Sea campaign. Matilda Bark from the Dorset Coast Forum added that "We were really pleased when Vinci Construction UK limited contacted the team and said they wanted to show their support for the campaign by organising a local beach clean." Litter Free Coast and Sea is a campaign to try and reduce the amount of marine and beach litter along the Jurassic coast. It seeks to raise societal awareness of both the problems and the potential solutions relating to marine litter. If you cannot come along to the beach clean you can still show your support for the campaign by enjoying a Litter
Free Lunch next time you are having a day out at the coast." Litter Free Lunches are simple, just follow the three B's:
o Bags - Use and reuse heavy cotton bags or bags for life to carry your food
o Bottles - Take home all your drinks bottles and reuse them on your next day out
o BBQs - Once finished, use sea water to cool it down ready to take home and dispose of
