Father Who Lost Son Calls For Portland Helicopter To Be Saved
9:04am 28th June 2012
More WESSEX FM listeners are backing a campaign to save Portland's Coastguard Helicopter.
Under Government plans it'll be scrapped by 2017 to save money on the budget.
There's now an online petition, that needs 10,000 signatures, to get the issue debated in the House of Commons.
Roy Hallet from Dorchester has signed the petition. His son was rescued by the emergency chopper in 2008. Despite valiant attempts by the crew to save him, he later died.
Roy says it's crucial the Helicopter stays in the air, becuase the Air Ambulance can't fly all the time. Click the player below to hear more from Mr Hallet.
Nicky's a pyshio at Bridport Football Club. She says they used the Portland Coastguard Helicopter to treat an injured player because the air ambulance was already out on an emergency. Click the player below to hear more.
The e-petition, which closes on August 23rd, 2012, can be found HERE.
