A telescope that's used by hundreds of walkers and tourists every year has been stolen from Hardy's monument in Porteshman.
It's believed thieves used an electric cutting tool to remove the silver pay-to-view scope from its stand sometime between Sunday 8th and Sunday 15th July 2012.
Madeline Duke, whose husband owns the land the scope sits on, says whoever stole the telescope took advantage of the bad weather, because recent downpours meant no one had been up to the site for a few days. Click the player below to hear more from Mrs Duke.
The stolen scope could be used for a number of things, and even be repositioned on a new stand somewhere in Dorset.
Anyone who has information about its whereabouts or knows what happened to it is asked to contact Dorchester Police on 101. Click the player below to hear more from Madeline.
