A family have had a lucky escape after their yacht began sinking off Portland Bill.

The 45 foot long boat, of 3 adults and 2 children, began taking on water in rough seas and was forced to call the coastguard for help.

The Coastguard chopper winched 3 of them to safety whilst the others were towed back into shore by a local boat "Offshore Rebel" who'd responded to their mayday call for help. A Weymouth Lifeboat placed a pump on-board which managed to keep up with the water pouring in.

All crew members were wearing lifejackets and no one was injured in yesterdays (Saturday 14th July 2012) incident.
