Beaminster Tunnel Couple Killed Almost Instantly

Beaminster Tunnel 1

4:02pm 20th July 2012

A couple, killed in a landslide at the Beaminster Tunnel, would not have known what was happening to them.

An inquest has opened into the death of 67 year old Rosemary Snell from Misterton in Somerset and 72 year old Michael Rolfe of Fivehead, also in Somerset.

They were killed after the tunnel collapsed on July 7th; their bodies weren't discovered until ten days afterwards.

It's been stated that rescue attempts would not have saved the couple.

The coroner says Rosemary's death would have been very rapid while Mr Rolfe would have been killed instantaneously.

A full inquest will be heard in due course.
