11:59am 10th August 2012
Two men have been arrested following an incident in Swanage.
Police were called to High Street following a disturbance there at about half past two yesterday morning.
Amongst those being held is a 22-year-old man from Swanage.
Chief Inspector Bryan Duffy said: “At 2.30am yesterday morning there were a considerable number of people who were in the area enjoying the town’s night life. However, I understand that the disturbance was principally as a result of just a small minority of individuals.
“I am appealing for anyone who has any information about this disturbance to contact police on 101.
“This incident is in no way a reflection of the usual night time atmosphere in Swanage and is very unusual. The licensees and local council have actively engaged with Dorset Police to ensure that the town is a very safe place to live and visit. Together we will conduct a review of this incident to ensure that this continues to be the case.”
Two men, a 22-year-old from Swanage and a 19-year-old from Basingstoke, were arrested and are helping police with their enquiries.
Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 9:47. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
