The One Show Live On Weymouth Beach
10:59am 13th August 2012
Weymouth will be in the spotlight again on Monday (13 August) when The One Show will be filming live on the beach at 7pm.
People in the town are invited to the beach from 6.30pm to watch the show, which will be celebrating the success of Team GB at the Olympics. The producers are promising they will have a surprise in store.
BBC researcher, Oliver Julian, said: "Join us with your flags and loudest cheers to help us celebrate the success of Team GB at the 2012 Games.
"We'll have a surprise up our sleeve during the programme so come along or tune in to find out what we have in store to celebrate the achievements of our sailing team and rest of the athletes."
The broadcast will come on top of two weeks of unprecedented media coverage for Weymouth & Portland during the London 2012 Olympic sailing events. Hundreds of journalists have visited the borough and the area has enjoyed daily national and international media exposure reaching a potential audience of 4 billion people worldwide.
Weymouth and Portland Borough Council brief holder for Tourism, Ian Bruce said: "The Games have provided a once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase what Weymouth & Portland has to offer and the coverage on television has looked absolutely fantastic.
"Hosting the sailing events has certainly put us on the map and the fact that The One Show has chosen to broadcast from here on Monday just shows that we have been successful in catching the attention of the British people."
Thousands of people flocked to Weymouth Beach during the period of the sailing events to watch live Olympic coverage on big screens, try out the free sports arena and soak up the festival atmosphere.
The borough will expect yet more visitors and media coverage at the beginning of September when it will host the Paralympic sailing events (1-6 September). Weymouth & Portland is the only venue outside London to host a full Paralympic programme, starting with celebrations to welcome the Paralympic flame on 27 August.
