Flame Will Light The Way For Paralympics
7:55am 21st August 2012
Weymouth and Portland will welcome the Paralympic Flame on Bank Holiday Monday.
The flame will be based at the ICCI 360 Arena in front of Weymouth Pavilion during the Paralympic sailing events in the Borough.
They'll also be a free international fireworks display on the seafront at 9.30pm on Monday evening.
Weymouth & Portland Borough Council's tourism and culture brief holder Cllr Ian Bruce said: "The fireworks are one of Weymouth's most cherished summer events, and a great highlight of the resort's year. It's a real celebration of fun, excitement and represents all that is great about Weymouth and Portland's spectacular Olympic summer season and a magnificent opportunity to welcome the Paralympic sailing events to the borough."
On the night there will also be a free entry £500 cash draw. Entry forms can be found in the Dorset Echo newspaper or available on the evening from the draw table in Alexandra Gardens. Simply place your completed form in the competition box between 7pm and 9pm. The draw will be made shortly prior to the fireworks at the Seafront Public Address at 9.25 pm. This competition is supported by Alexandra Gardens, the Dorset Echo, Wessex FM and Weymouth & Portland Borough Council.
Another great firework event is planned for 5 November at Weymouth Community Guy Fawkes night, also on the beach.
