Dragon Boats will be racing across Weymouth Bay today in a fast and furious contest of skill and stamina.
It's the 16th year of the event organised by Melcombe Regis Rotary Club, that raises funds for local charities.
Large crowds are expected to gather on Weymouth Beach to watch the teams of paddlers drawn from local companies and organisations competing, with the final at 5pm tonight.
The Rotary Club raises funds for charities by asking for an entry fee per team. Teams are encouraged to obtain additional charitable pledges.
The Rotary Shelter Box scheme, Weldmar, Julia's House are a few of the charities which have benefited in previous years.
Spokesperson from Melcombe Regis Rotary Club, said: "This year's event, being held between the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic sailing events, promises to attract great interest.
"We would like to thank all the teams registered to date and a special thanks to PGL of Osmington who supply all of the Dragon Boats and on water support."
