Weymouth and Portland Monopoly Board to be Launched Next Month
9:07am 4th September 2012
It's been announced today that a brand new official Monopoly board for Weymouth and Portland will be launched on the 26th of October.
But makers of the game are keeping the identities of the property owners of Old Kent Road and Mayfair under wraps until nearer the time.
Earlier in the year we were asked to vote on which local landmarks we'd like to see in the game.
And who knows, Wessex FM might even feature.
"We are keeping the vast majority of the new Weymouth and Portland property owners under our MONOPOLY hats until we launch," says Dan Taylor, MONOPOLY Manager at the game's maker Winning Moves UK, who are producing the board under license from Hasbro.
But Mr Taylor announces that the four train stations that traditionally focus on railway stations will be handed over to a 'travel' theme.
"We will be announcing a few of the locations ahead of the launch."
"More than 22,000 landmarks, streets or roads could potentially have appeared on the board. Realistically around 220 were in the running so many congratulations to the 22 who made the final cut."
Mr Taylor adds:
"We would like to formally thank the Weymouth and Portland public for all its votes. Without the public's support this unique and official board could not have been produced."
The spirit and shape of this customised edition will remain the same as with the traditional MONOPOLY board game - so, for example, the playing pieces will stay the same as will the rules and the four corner squares (GO, Jail, Free Parking and Go To Jail).
The money will be the same denomination - as will the celebrated houses and hotels.
The new MONOPOLY: Weymouth and Portland Edition will be available at all good toy and book stores as well as extensively online.
