Awards Night to Honour Dorset's Brave Fireman
7:10am 5th September 2012
Medals for Long Service and Good Conduct will be handed out tonight, at Dorset Fire and Rescue Service's Annual Awards Ceremony.
It's taking place at Lulworth Castle.
The service's team of specialist who help rescue people from road traffic accidents will receive the Making A Difference Award.
The certificate is the Chief Fire Officer's way of recognising the efforts of both Police Constables at a house fire in Christchurch on 27th October 2011. Prior to the arrival of DFRS at the incident officers Brehmer and Griffiths entered the heavily smoke logged property and led a family of four to safety (two adults and two teenage children). Both Police Constables will also receive a Society for the Protection of Life from Fire national award as testimony to their distinguished conduct during this incident.
There will be two Community Safety Awards presented. These are awarded to an individual, team or external organisation for demonstrating a significant contribution to the strategic aim of Dorset Fire Authority. This year they are being presented to:
- Dave Bryant an ex-station manager at Christchurch fire station, who actively volunteers for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service.
- Teresa Cross, Education manager at Dorset Fire and Rescue, for her efforts in developing and delivering intellectual and stimulating learning activities for children and young people.
Dorset's Chief Fire Officer Darran Gunter said: "My sincere thanks go to the Weld family, who have once again, very generously allowed us to use one of the most prestigious venues in the county to host our annual awards.
He added: "I am very proud of the service we deliver to Dorset and of all those who make up that service. In addition to recognising the members of staff who have worked within Dorset Fire & Rescue Service for twenty years, I am delighted to be presenting awards in four other categories. This allows us to praise the excellent work being done above and beyond the call of duty with regards to work within the community, making a difference to the service, young achievers and professional achievements."
