Local Communities in South Dorset have been thanked by Police for their co-operation during the Olympics.

For the past 8 weeks Dorset Police has been working around the clock to provide a safe and secure games in Weymouth and Portland.

They've said THE success of their operation is down to the support and vigilance of the community and its vistors.

Planning for the massive security operation began back in 2005.

Assistant Chief Constable, Adrian Whiting has told Wessex FM that "The success of the security operation in Dorset has undoubtedly been down to the support and vigilance of local communities and visitors, and to the hard work and commitment of our police officers, police staff and partners - including those officers and staff working in Dorset on mutual aid for the operation."

Mr Whiting ended by saying that "Despite the challenges we have experienced this summer, Dorset remains one of the safest places to live, work and visit and our communities should be reassured by the continued commitment of all local partners to keep Dorset safe."
