More People Calling RNLI for Help in Weymouth
7:44am 19th September 2012
Weymouth was the second busiest lifeboat station in Dorset between June and August - responding to 32 call outs.
First was Poole with 45 call outs - making it the joint busiest in the South West with Falmouth.
Volunteers from the RLNI across the South West were called in to help with safety cover for the Olympic and Paralympic Sailing events off Weymouth and Portland.
Tom Mansell, RNLI Inspector in the south west, says:
'Once again our volunteer crews have shown that they are committed and brave individuals, on stand by to save lives at sea come rain or shine even during the summer when they deserve their own time off to be with their families. I thank them for their continuing dedication and I thank their families for their invaluable support too.'
