Alf's Fish And Chips Go Down Well
5:19pm 19th September 2012
Alf’s Fish & Chips in Weymouth celebrated being crowned Britain’s Favourite Family Chippy 2012 in style yesterday, with free fish and chips for its loyal customers.
Residents flocked to the renowned family-run fryers to join them for a free portion of their favourite fish and chips, following the shop’s success in the awards hosted by Ben Shaws, the nostalgic soft drinks brand.
John and Karen Pearce, who own Alf’s Fish & Chips, were presented with the coveted 2012 Favourite Family Chippy trophy and certificate, a £500 donation* to treat their customers in addition to complimentary cans of Ben Shaws all round. The family have also been treated to a night away including dinner at a renowned fish restaurant.
Now in its third year, the annual awards champion outstanding family-run chip shops across Britain that truly make a difference to the local community. Alf’s Fish & Chips beat tough competition to win the title of the UK’s number one, having been shortlisted for its philanthropic attitude - raising money for the children’s ward at the local hospital and providing food vouchers to various schools and charities, before topping a public vote hosted on the Ben Shaws dedicated Facebook page.
Ally Whitehead, Assistant Brand Manager at Ben Shaws said: “Alf’s Fish & Chips is a worthy winner of our Favourite Family Chippy award 2012, as a family-run fish and chip shop clearly loved by its local community. We hope everyone who joined John and Karen in celebrating the award enjoyed their free fish and chips, and on behalf of the Ben Shaws team we would like to share our congratulations again on this fantastic achievement.”
