Firefighters Keep Watchful Eye on Cottage Near Bere Regis Overnight

A cottage has had its thatched roof destroyed after a fire near Dorchester.

Dorset Fire and Rescue were called to the fire at Hurst Green Cottage in Moreton yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 19th September 2012).

It took more than 25 fire-fighters to bring it under control.

Investigators say the cause of this fire is believed to be a breech in the chimney which allowed the hot flue to ignite combustible material. Luckily no one was injured.

Crews stayed overnight dampening down hotspots.
