(Updated 11:11am 28th September 2012)

The number of entries to this year's Dorset's Business Awards has shot up by 46% on last year.

Local businesses were allowed to enter 2 categories each, ranging from best new business to best food and drink and most inspirational youth.

A team of 14 judges will select 2 finalists in each category tonight (Thursday 26th September) before they're officially announced tomorrow.

Finalists will be invited to a black tie event at Weymouth College.

Julie Cleaver, Managing Director of Open 4 Business Dorset said " We are overwhelmed with the level of entries this year from all over Dorset.  Weymouth & Portland businesses continue to produce over 50% of the entries, but this is expected as Open 4 Business has been popular in this area for over 10 years.  The most popular categories are, Best New Business, Best Small to Medium size Business and the Best Community Engagement Project.  Judging is going to be very tough this year".
