Ferry Berth Fix To Cost Double Expectations
9:19am 28th September 2012
The cost of repairs to Weymouth's cracked ferry berth is going to be double what was expected.
Weymouth and Portland Borough Council now has to decide whether they can afford to fork out nearly £4m to fix the crumbling harbour wall.
The work's expected to take 24 weeks and it wants to reopen the ferry terminal by March 2013.
Ferry sailings from the Port bring-in £650,000 to the local economy every year.
Council Leaders will ask for the extra cash at a Committee meeting next Tuesday (2nd October 2012).
