Roadworks Back In Bridport On Monday
10:18am 28th September 2012
A £400,000 project to upgrade the local gas supply network in Bridport will be completed as quickly as possible say Southern Gas Networks.
Work will resume on Monday (1st October), meaning more roadworks for the town.
SGN had to stop work in November 2011 to secure listed building consent for some of the gas service pipe installations.
Seever engineering difficulties with the pipe work meant that only a third of phase one was completed before Christmas. Phase one was finally finished March this year.
From next week Gundry Lane will be closed westward from its junction with South Street with an alternative route and temporary traffic lights for ten days.
The following seven weeks from October 15th South Street will be closed between its junction with Gundry Lane to its junction with West/East Street.
During both road closures all on street parking will be suspended between the two zebra crossings wither side of Gundry Lane and Folly Mill Lane.
The road works are to replaced existing metal gas pipes with modern plastic polyethylene pipes to ensure the safety and reliability of Southern Gas Networks' services.
The third and final phase is due to start in January 2013 and estimated to finish by Easter Bank Holiday.
