Beware the consequences of buying or selling 'under the counter' alcohol.
It follows a recent prosecution by Dorset Trading Standards which had dramatic consequences for a customer who bought vodka from a retailer in the county.
The customer reported feeling 'ill ' rather than drunk...only to later discover the alcohol he'd bought contained ten times the permitted level of methanol!
The retailer bought drink bearing a 'duty paid' stamp from a man claiming to be from a local 'cash and carry' which were cheaper than normal and without a receipt.
Trading Standards say 'Food and drink retailers must be cautious about what they are selling to consumers and any trader who buys stock from an untraceable source and without proper invoices are not thinking about the safety of their customers'.
