9:02am 24th October 2012
Weymouth will be joining in with celebrations for United Nations Day today with a commemorative ceremony.
The event will be held at Lady Diana Gardens, Radipole Park Drive at 10.30am.
The free occasion is open to local residents and will include the raising of the UN Flag followed by a speech by the Mayor and the President of the Weymouth and Portland Lions Club, Mr Richard Burgess.
Matt Ryan, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council Head of Tourism and Events, said: "We are very proud to have the opportunity on behalf of the borough to recognize United Nations Day and acknowledge the outstanding work carried out by the UN.
"The United Nations work reaches every corner of the globe, although best known for peace keeping, peace building, conflict prevention and humanitarian assistance there are many other ways that the United Nations affect our lives and make the world a better place."
