Free Screenings To Prevent Mouth Cancer
9:05am 27th October 2012
A Dorchester dental practice is offering free cancer check ups during Mouth Cancer Action Month.
Poundbury Dental Practice has screenings for anyone who don't have a dentist or hasn't seen one in a year.
Six thousand people will be diagnosed with mouth cancer this year and half of those people will die of the disease. However, early diagnosis gives patients a 90% chance of survival.
The Poundbury appointments take only a few minutes. Practice Manager Tim Warren says mouth cancer has increased by 48% in the past 12 years. He said: "If in doubt, get it checked out and ask your doctor, dentist or pharmacist. People don't always go to the dentist because they're scared of the dentist or they've got good teeth but there is still a need to have mouth cancer screening tests. Dentists are in a fantastic position to detect something that's abnormal and to get it referred and checked out at the hospital."
The mouth cancer screening sessions will take place on selected Friday afternoons in November from 2pm. You can book your appointment by phoning the dental practice on 01305 268 068.
