Have Your Say On The Future Of Portland
10:04am 5th November 2012
Are you a Portlander who wants a say on the future needs and aspirations of your community?
You now have the opportunity to help develop a community plan.
The plan will give people on the Island more say about where new homes are built and where new shops go.
Residents will get the chance to shape the Neighbourhood Plan through drop-in sessions and meetings over the coming months. The first two of these will be held at:
Underhill: Underhill Junior School on Monday, 14 January, 3pm - 7pm
Tophill: Royal Manor Arts College on Monday, 21 January, 3.30pm - 7pm
Anyone who is interested is welcome to come along. There will be further opportunities for ideas and issues to be discussed as the plan begins to take shape.
The area the town council propose to cover with the Neighbourhood Plan is the entire Island of Portland.
If you have any comments about whether this is the right area, please send them to the Spatial Policy & Implementation team at Weymouth & Portland Borough Council by 7 December.
Once the plan is formulated it will then be submitted for independent examination, and will also be subject to a local referendum to check it has the support of local people.
Hilary Jordan, Spatial & Community Policy Manager at Weymouth & Portland Borough Council, said: "This is a great opportunity for local people to help decide the future of Portland. Come along, have your say, and help shape your community."
Those interested in getting involved in the development of their Neighbourhood Plan should contact Ian Looker, Clerk to Portland Town Council, on 01305 821638.
