Holocaust Tree Vandalised In Weymouth
7:53am 8th November 2012
A tree planted in Weymouth to mark the Holocaust atrocities has been vandalised.
The Norway Maple Tree in Radipole Park gardens has been attacked with a saw and chopped down.
The park's garden reported the incident early yesterday morning (Wednesday 7th November 2012) and it's thought vandals attacked sometime overnight.
Dorset Police are investigating and calling on witnesses to come forward.
Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Director of Communities Kate Hindson said: "It is extremely sad that someone has done this. Acts of vandalism in the gardens are quite rare and we certainly have never had a tree deliberately sawn off like this before."
Inspector Les Fry, of Weymouth police, said: "This is a despicable act of criminal damage which will be very disappointing for local residents."
Anyone who has any information about the person responsible, to contact Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident number C-12-D-7:197
