Work Vans Latest Target of Thieves in Dorchester
6:00pm 9th November 2012
Builders and handymen with work vans are being targeted by thieves in Dorchester.
10 vehicles in the Manor and Castle Park areas have been broken into and robbed over the last 12 days.
Items stolen include drills, chainsaws and other power tools.
Dorset Police say the criminals are operating overnight but they could strike anywhere and there's concern they may look at vulnerable rural targets.
Dorchester PC Mike Brown says they're stepping up night time patrols to find the perpetrators and is calling on the public to help too.
"If residents hear or see any suspicious activity overnight they should phone 999 without delay. I would expect the thieves to be travelling around in a vehicle so residents should stay vigilant and report and suspicious vehicles to the police. I cannot stress enough the need for owners of work vans to remove any tools from the vehicle overnight. We are determined to support the victims of these thefts and prevent any further residents becoming victims."
