Commons Committee Call for Consultation Over Portland Chopper
11:49am 15th November 2012
There's hope yet for Portland's Coastguard Helicopter.
The Chair of the Commons Transport Select Committee has said scrapping the rescue chopper could put lives at risk, and slow response times.
MP Louise Ellman has written to Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin calling for a public consultation on its future.
She told Wessex FM local people deserve to speak out before any major decision is made: "Normally when a change of this magnitude is being made there's a public consultation so any concerns can be properly considered. The Transport Committee has heard concerns from local MP Richard Drax and it's clear there needs to be a proper consultation."
The Portland Helicopter is due to be grounded by 2017.
