New Adoption Centre To Open In Dorset
8:12am 24th November 2012
Dorset's award winning writer Julian Fellowes is to open a new adoption centre in Dorchester this month.
Local adoption Agency, Families for Children, will also be making a plea for more adoptive families to come forward.
The agency hopes their new centre in Dorchester will raise awareness and dispel some of the myths about adoption.
They want families to know they do have a choice and they can go to them as well as the local authority.
As well as Lord Fellowes, they'll also be parents at the opening who can talk about their experiences of the adoption process.
Katey McDonald, Families for Children says; "We hope that the new centre in Dorchester will help raise local awareness and dispel some of the myths surrounding adoption and encourage families to come forward. Families for Children are also keen to let people know that they do have a choice when considering adoption with both the Local Authority and Families for Children operating locally. Whilst the adoption process is broadly similar in both organisations; Families for Children have an excellent post adoption support team that can support and advise the family and child for the rest of their lives if needs be.
The agency specialises in adoption and we have a team of dedicated and committed social workers to guide potential adopters through the assessment process, matching with a child and on to post adoption support should it be required."
"It is hoped that by inviting local businesses, professionals and the press to come along and find out more about our work from the heart of those people whose lives have been affected by adoption that we can create a community understanding of how families' lives are changed forever by our work. This at a time when the number of children currently in the care system is growing yet enquiries from potential adopters are dwindling."
Families for Children are holding a VIP opening of their new centre on Monday 17th December at 1.00pm at their new premises.
