Volunteer Steps Down After Sixy Years Helping Save Lives

First Aid

12:05pm 1st December 2012
(Updated 10:45am 3rd December 2012)

A man who has spent six decades providing first aid in Weymouth is stepping down.

Rex Purchase, who joined St. John's Ambulance in 1945 and has trained thousands in first aid, will continue to support the charity as Weymouth's Divisional President.

Rex now hopes to encourage others to follow in his footsteps and learn the lifesaving skills of first aid.

This comes after recently released research showing that 140,000 people die a year in situations where first aid may have made a difference.
