Weymouth's Pavilion Set to Close
1:20pm 4th December 2012
Weymouth's Pavilion is likely to close for good unless someone can step in and save it.
A Weymouth and Portland Borough Council management committee recommended proposals for its closure to go ahead, at a meeting this morning (Tuesday 4th December).
But full Council will have to give the go ahead early next year.
The local authority needs to make millions of pounds worth of savings and the Pavilion has simply become too expensive to keep going.
After some lively discussion which saw members of the public speak out in support of the Pavilion, the Committee agreed to put out options for budget consultations.
It means - unless someone can come forward to take over the entertainment venue - it's more than likely going to close and be knocked down to potentially make way for a car park.
One Borough Councillor said it could go as early as March next year (2013) but no date has been fixed yet.
