Parking Lottery For Shoppers In Beaminster
4:48pm 12th December 2012
A lottery will be launched to help attract shoppers to Beaminster.
You'll be able to enter you're parking tickets for the town into a draw each week with the chance to win a prize valued at £200.
The scheme will be launched in January next year.
And it's hoped it will give businesses in Beaminster a boost who've been affected by the closure of the tunnel.
Nigel Reeve, Head of Beaminster and District Business Chamber, said: "This is a great scheme, shoppers who come to Beaminster will now have the chance to win a prize worth £200 every week. It only costs 30 pence an hour to park in Beaminster so it is great value and great odds.
"We are hoping it will help boost trade as people will have a very real chance of winning a valuable prize every week from January to the end of June 2013."
West Dorset District Council took the decision to launch the scheme at its Executive Committee Meeting on Tuesday (11/12).
Robert Gould, Leader of West Dorset District Council, said: "We decided to set-up the parking lottery to attract shoppers to Beaminster, because we were concerned that the closure of the tunnel has affected some businesses.
"Beaminster is open for business and has a super range of distinctive local businesses and fantastic restaurants and cafes. It is well worth a shopping trip, especially now you might win a prize worth £200."
The scheme has also been backed by Beaminster Town Council. Gilbert Berry, Chairman of Beaminster Town Council, said: "I think this is a great idea to bring more people into our lovely town.
"Our businesses could do with a little bit of extra help while the tunnel work is completed so I am delighted to support the scheme. Visitors will have a very real chance of winning a fantastic prize, so come to Beaminster and enter the lottery."
Shoppers can enter the lottery simply by sending in their contact details with a parking ticket bought from a district council pay and display machine in Beaminster.
Each week a winner will be drawn who will receive vouchers worth £200 that can be spent in participating Beaminster shops and businesses. The lottery will run until the summer. The tunnel is expected to re-open at the end of May. Terms and conditions will apply.
