"Protect your car from thieves" is the message of the day from Dorset Police.

Its day 12 of their advent calendar and the Force has released a special YouTube video for motorists.

The video message is simple don't leave your doors unlocked and keep any valuables out of sight!

A 10% increase in vehicle crime has taken place between January and October this year compared to the same period of 2011 - so it is important for people to take steps to reduce the chances of becoming a victim of this crime.

Detective Inspector Richard Dixey, of the Dorset Police Priority Crime Team, said: "Presents and valuables should not be left in cars, either in view or hidden away.

"Windows and doors should always be securely locked when vehicles are left.
