Weldmar supporters guaranteed to be on Santa's 'Nice' list.
On Sunday 9th December 130 members of the local community supported their local hospice by taking part in Weldmar’s second Family Santa Fun Run.Santas of all ages pounded the streets of Dorchester walking, jogging or running to complete the 2.5 mile route.
To get each Santa in the festive spirit they were treated to a warm up session led by local Slimdance teacher Jo Thompson before the race and on arrival back to the hall each participant received a medal, a warming cup of mulled wine and a mince pie. Plus each person that registered received a free Santa suit.
Matt Smith, event organiser said “This is an event in our fundraising calendar which really does mark the start of Christmas. Everyone being dressed in Santa suits creates a fantastic atmosphere and brings cheering crowds and drivers blowing their horns on route. It really is a lovely sight”.
Over £3,500 was pledged on the day and organisers are hoping that with the addition of gift aid to be added to this total they will match last year’s total.
Matt said “One of the main aims of this event is to have fun however it is also vitally important that we raise as much money as possible to enable us to continue providing our various services. It would be great if we could have a final total before the New Year so we are asking for people to send in their sponsorship money as soon as possible.”
Weldmar Hospicecare Trust would like to thank all of those who participated in this event and to the volunteers who gave up their Sunday morning to help the event run smoothly, ensuring that each participant was safe on route, registered and fed at the end of the run.
