Dorset County Hospital Handed Giant Invoice
8:55am 18th December 2012
Unison have handed a giant Invoice to Dorset County Hospital NHS Trust for over £4M.
The Trade Union did the stunt to draw attention to the amount of extra hours hospital staff do voluntarily to keep front line services going.
Dorset County is part of pay cartel in the South West looking at reviewing staff terms and conditions.
Helen Eccles, UNISON Regional Organiser, said:
"We have long campaigned against trusts in the South West seeking to reduce terms and conditions for hardworking staff. The figure of £4.2m, which we have calculated using Dorset County NHS Foundation Trust's own figures, is quite simply staggering and we believe that even that is on the conservative side. We want to make clear to the Trust management that when you consider these kind of attacks on staff, then it is not only staff goodwill that you put at risk but there is also a financial cost to the Trust. People working in the NHS are some of the hardest working people in the country - how many of us can say we save lives every day? Not many of us."
A spokesperson for Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust said: "Unison have not informed us about this event or invited anyone from the Trust to meet with them today. We do not know how they have calculated this figure."
